Making life better for others
Did you know most of the large improvement the charity makes to the hospital are from people leaving us donations in their will?
When it comes to your will, we understand your family and friends come first. However, would you consider leaving a gift to a charity that’s close to your heart?
Gifts in your will can make a difference to those who find themselves in need of care at Poole Hospital. Over the years, the generosity of people remembering the hospital in their will has made a real difference to our patients. Legacies have enabled us to provide many of the extra touches that mean so much. They’ve also provided funds for state-of-the-art specialist equipment and ward refurbishments.
Making a will is one of those jobs that people don’t get round to doing because they’re worried it will be too complicated or costly. However by making a will you can:
Choose who is in charge of sorting out your estate.
Appoint guardians for your children under 18.
Choose who inherits what.
Going to a solicitor is the best way of making sure your will says what you want it to say.

Ann Gander contacted the charity office to tell us that she has updated her will and has included Poole Hospital as a beneficiary:
“Writing a will is something I have had on my to do list for a number of years and, now that it has been finalised, I can put the will away in a safe place knowing that everything is in order and hope that I don’t need to refer to it for a good time yet! I have decided to leave a legacy to Poole Hospital but specifically to the ladybird unit, a centre of excellence, where I continue to receive wonderful treatment following my breast cancer diagnosis in 2007.”
Tony Clarke’s sister left Poole Hospital’s Dorset Cancer Centre a legacy of £5,000:
“My sister Geraldine left a legacy to Poole Hospital as she wanted to demonstrate her gratitude to the Dorset Cancer Centre in a very tangible way. Geraldine received treatment at the cancer centre following her cancer diagnosis in 2007. Our family are very proud of the legacy my sister left and touched by the care and expertise of those staff who cared for her.”
